If you’re looking west side of the San Antonio loop (which is the side University Hospital is on), just stay north/outside of 410 and you should be fine. Ideally you want to live a little east of Bandera road as well (highway 16). But west of Bandera still isn’t bad, just not as commercially developed. Just really want to be north of 410, if the price is right.

Most everything east of Bandera, west of wetmore road (which runs alongside the airport), and north of 410 will have you in real good shape. And very broadly speaking (there are certainly exceptions), the farther north/closer to 1604 you are, the nicer the neighborhoods get. And if you’re making decent money and are willing to do 15/20 minute work commutes, homes north of 1604 can get real nice.

San Antonio is going to get shite on here since it’s a heavy Hispanic population, but it’s really a great city. All the entertainment benefits of large metro areas without feeling crammed in tight together like many other major cities. You get all the benefits of big city living while still having plenty of space. I suspect you’ll like it far more than Nola/BR. I know I do
