Auburn stinks.

A "big game" would need to be 450 yards and 5 TDs.

More than likely, Max won't get any Heisman consideration unless we go into Tuscaloosa and win with him playing a great game.

His stats are ridiculous and he’s getting better each game. If we go 10-2 or 9-3 I can see him being in NYC

Dear god.

This goes so far beyond “I’ll have what he’s having”

OP must be one of those people who put money on MJ to win the Heisman after Brennan went down.

He's 16th in yards, 36th in yards/att, 17th in rating, 49th in comp%, and tied for 2nd in TDs.

this is getting downvoted to hell and back, but I don't think it's unreasonable to ask.

Max is on pace to lead the nation in TDs. Burrow recently won the Heisman at LSU.

You know who else likely goes to NYC? Spencer Rattler, from Oklahoma. Not because he's extremely amazing, but because he's following Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray at Oklahoma, hell they got Jalen Hurts a trip there.

I fail to see why this is getting such extreme negativity in response.

OP asked if Johnson would get consideration, with the condition that he have a big game vs Auburn.

Johnson's numbers are already a talking point during game coverage, so the seeds are being planted. If he continues to throw TDs at this pace against the upcoming SEC opponents, that chatter will only increase. You and I might think there's a lot of holes in his game, but the casual non-SEC fan will see- a guy (following Burrow, a recent Heisman winner) putting 4-5 TDs a game on the board, against Auburn, Florida, A&M, etc.

Will he win it, doubtful to say the least. But will he get mentioned, sure- I think we hear his name. Might even make the trip to the awards ceremony.
It makes a ton of sense- he's young (and thus will be around another couple years), he's already putting numbers up, he's at a big program with a recent winner, etc. Hell, if he keeps this pace up and we can win 9 games this season, he may be a front-runner next year, crazy as you might think that sounds.

He’ll have to lead this team to an SEC championship with lights out performances against Arkansas, Bama, A&M and Ole Miss. No more losses. Do that, and yea he may get a free flight to NY.

But for real tho

Ok, I'm getting downvoted just for responding with something other than a "no fricking way"

I get it, we're all miserable about starting 0-1 and not being a smooth, polished machine. I admit I was ready for Orgeron to be fired before SEC play started, just like the majority of posters here.

But look at it in this light:

they normally invite 5-6 guys to NYC, a couple of which are simply courtesy invites. Most of the time, we know who will win, and the rest are just being acknowledged.

If LSU goes on a run, but keeps winning like they did against Miss State (which is quite possible), you get this scenario- the defense won't finish a complete game, so the score will be close if we win. The running game almost certainly will be non-existent.
So you will have Max Johnson putting up 4 TDs a game; single-handedly winning shootouts (or so it will be hyped) against SEC opponents. He will have 35-40 or so TDs, we might be 9-3. You take his production away (judge just the defense and running game), and we could be 2-10.

He won't win because he's a) young, b) not on a contender, c)doesn't have a rocket arm, d) some of his other numbers (completion percentage etc) will be lower.
But he's almost certain to be "one of the other guys" that get put in when people fill out their ballots.

Max is very good but he's not "the most outstanding player in the nation"

If you watch the game, you'd see he's not throwing balls where they need to be. Honestly, I question his arm strength. Those sideline rail patterns are open. But it has to be outside and deep.
He miserably under threw them.
His accuracy just isn't there.

Heisman? My Lord..he isn't even in the top 20

Right now he's the equivalent of one of those Texas Tech QBs putting up huge numbers because they never/can't run.

Hate to say empty stats, but...

I think he's got about the same arm Hodson had. And yeah, that's not NFL-worthy. But it works in college.

You guys are focusing on the fine print, and not seeing the bigger picture. I know he doesn't have a cannon, you know it.

If you watch the game
The Michigan and Oklahoma fans don't notice, they are watching their own teams, and catch just the highlights. And the highlight reel shows Johnson throwing 4 TDs every time LSU plays.

Ok, pick your list of 6 guys. Not just the frontrunners, fill in the field. And tell me, is the #5 guy going to have the same amount of weekly highlights as Johnson?

And no, for the record I don't think he's anywhere near the best player in college. But the Heisman doesn't work that way, it's a popularity contest.

His highlights are throwing it 15 yards to a receiver who actually makes the highlight
