It looks nice but almost seems like it will take the fun out of smoking

Lol I am in suburban NJ and had deer in the yard this morning

That's pretty common in suburban NJ. We have a family of deer that come and chill out under our trees during the day. We had a couple of foxes making noise near our window one night and weirding the wife out. When I went outside and spotlighted them, they ran off but the big buck deer that was sitting down, watching them, didn't flinch.

I've got a little 33 acre piece of property in rural north Louisiana, once I get my kid out of high school and on with life I would love to build on it and retire in the country.

Jealous. I’ve been looking for 20-30 acres in Texas just to play with. Shoot, hunt hog, camp. Maybe have a single wide or something. Hard to find though in my price range and within a few hour drive of houston.

But whenever I hear someone say they want to build in the country, I cant help but worry the country will turn into another suburb with all the building.

I had no idea NJ had any wildlife or even forest until I watched Sopranos. In my mind the entire northeast is one giant urban sprawl.

We get all kinds of wildlife that hang out on our little suburban spot. Deer, red foxes, squirrels, rabbits, groundhogs, hawks, crows, you name it.

It’s called the Garden State but they never really show much of that part of the state in TV. Very pretty outside of the metro area.

You are one great storyteller.

Are you on the second or third level of your apartment complex?

I like both. I hate living by people but I like living close to places I want to go and I don’t want to spend my free time maintaining property. If you have kids living in the country or a nice small town is probably best for them.

When I run into some city or suburban dwelling asswipe bragging about where they live I always ask them if they can legally go in their back yard and take a piss, shoot a gun, and build a bonfire. Shuts them up pretty quick

Meh. I live in suburban Atlanta, Kennesaw, Cobb County. We build fires, shoot guns and all of my guy friends pee outside. There is a ton of wildlife and a comingling population of city and country, all political beliefs, all races, all getting along. Many of them hunt. We float the Hooch, go boating, paddleboarding and kayaking on the lakes, camp, hike in the mountains.

Suburban life here is the best of both worlds. We live below Kennesaw Mountain, near Red Top Mountain and can be in Atlanta in 20 minutes.

I’m about the opposite being in earshot of I55 and so close to anheuser Busch that I can smell the Natty Light brewing. Looking forward to get a little cabin in the Missouri River valley or the Ozarks.

Yes. Our city has a "law," albeit symbolic, that every head of household is required to have a gun.

Not doing you a whole lot of good now, sorry just saw this. I was up in Avoyelles Parish today near Simmesport.
I found a silver thimble, a shield nickel (no rays and cant read the little arse date but looks like maybe 1867.
Man Donaldsonville has such rich history! Would love to hunt there!
What machine do you use?

Wonderful Thread. I open my eyes every morning to the sight of my neighbor's cows grazing in the fields where I hustled the milk cows as a child. Walk on and care for the same dirt that I trod with my farmer/fisher/hunter Grandpa, 69 years hence. Gaze at a pecan tree that my Brother and I used to climb in the corner of our back yard so we could see far; it was 6 inches back then...four feet now. I love this place so much that I wrote a Song. It gets Religious toward the end, but I'll share the front end anyway:

"Born in the Country":

"A scarlet glow in the Eastern sky,
a rooster crows...does he know why.
The sound of silence oe'r the land we till,
smell of coffee awakens the still.
Barely see through the misty light,
the land we love or the battles we fight.
Born in the country, bound to the land,
skies overhead and tools in our hands.

Chorus: We were born in the country,
children of Mother Earth.
By the grace of God we tread the sod,
from the day of our birth.
Souls of the forest, rivers and fields,
laboring on for what life yields.

More of course, but ya'll get the drift. True love of the country runs deep. That is what I most respect re the Native Americans.

Probably dox myself by sharing...as I'll likely publicize this with accompanying music, when I get it right.

Peace, love and wonder to my country Brethren.

Are we talking .22’s with CB’s or hi powered rifles? Very curious how you keep the peace with so many neighbors. Wife and I have discussed a potential move from where we currently live in Pinellas county FL (what I call southern NY) to an area in search of a place like you originally described. Just didn’t expect to hear your living situation based on the fact there’s about 6 million people in ATL area.
