Yea I feel like college coaches should get at least 3 yrs just to get the players in. Barring any scandals or other off the field drama.

Unless you are taking over one of the elites like Alabama/Ohio State/Oklahoma that already have the high end infrastructure in place, then you should get at least 4 seasons, 5 if you are coming in from outside of the program. Once you hit 5 years, everyone on the roster is one of your guys. Florida State isn’t going to fix their offensive line issues by firing Norvell. If the AD/fanbase had stepped up when they had Jimbo, they wouldn’t have these problems. They were able to overcome mediocre facilities in the 80s/90s because no one really separated themselves with that and they had an elite coaching staff for 15+ years, but when you don’t have that advantage and everyone you recruit against has equal or better facilities than you do, it’s not easy to recruit. And then you bring in a guy like Taggert who had no business being there, that only sets you further back. Florida State can get back to being a perennial top 10 program, but firing Norvell this season or next is a huge mistake.

Depends on the situation.
Willie Taggart should probably have been fired that quickly because it was clear he wasn’t a Power 5 coach. And if FSU had left him at Oregon for longer than a season, he would have proved it to them without a huge buyout.
Most other schools? Depends on the amount of talent in the cupboard. Most Kansas coaches get a while because they don’t have talent, in part because previous coaches like Charlie Weis screwed up recruiting to where they only had about 55 scholarship players due to departures.
