Why don't you believe this is plausible? If a player/student is not making progress toward a degree program by taking classes that do not count toward that degree and falls under the required 12 hours then he becomes ineligible. Pretty cut and dry.

Because I find it really hard to believe this player has taken 36 hours and none of them being towards a degree.

I’m going with 36 because in another thread someone posted needing 18 per year which is even less than I thought needed. I always thought full time was 24, so between the fall, spring, and summer you needed 24 hrs.

He was a 2019 recruit so he’s had 2019 fall, 19 winter intersession 20 spring, 20 summer, 20 fall, 20 winter intersession, 21 spring and 21 summer to take classes.

He’s had to have taken some general course requirements.

And his degree is general studies as I thought.

It’s been posted several times in the various threads, but you don’t just get to take one class that counts towards your major and fill the rest of the schedule with BS. Nor do you get to take 4-5 random classes and say “they all count toward some degree.”

The NCAA has requirements for how many credit hours you need each semester/year, and how much progress toward your degree is required.

You have to be enrolled full-time, meaning you have to be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours for fall/spring.

You have to complete at least 18 credit hours each year, not including summer classes. So if you do the math, that means you have to be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours each semester but technically only have to pass 9 credit hours worth of courses.

However, you also have to achieve minimum GPA requirements. If you’re entering the third year of enrollment (like Emery) your GPA must be >95% of the GPA required for graduation. At LSU, that means your GPA must be >1.9 at the start of your third year.

And perhaps most importantly, you have to complete at least 40% of the coursework required to graduate by the start of your third year. So 40% of 120 hours means a minimum of 48 credit hours that count toward your major by the start of your third year.

So effectively, this means you need to complete an average of 24 credit hours toward graduation each academic year with no fewer than 18 hours from fall to spring. If you fall behind, but still have at least your minimum 18 hours from fall-spring, you can make up classes to meet the % of degree requirement (and take extra classes to boost GPA) over the summer.
