We have become overly risk averse. Simple as that. Afraid to let humans be humans, scared of everything, nothing to really look forward to. Cheap trinkets, food and entertainment and you can buy off any American.
Our government did a masterful job destroying the American psyche in a couple of decades. Too many people packed into too tight of spaces, no loyalty, too much guilt, all in a superficial, materialistic world.

9/11 should have been a wake-up call to this country. Every Islamic radical group we've fought in the last 20 years (Al Qaeda, Taliban and ISIS) was either created by or assisted by our intelligence services, namely the CIA. Instead of publicly executing those in our government responsible for this, we gave these people near unlimited powers in the weeks, months and years that followed. Instead of stopping our meddling in the affairs of other countries and minding our own damn business, we have continued to seek out conflicts in which to intervene. We have learned nothing.
