Very few Drs. we’re pushing pain pills they were intimidated into it.JCAHO monitored it very closely,if physicians weren’t freely writing orders/scripts for opioids the hospital got “dinged”.Therefore, they were pressured into it.
JCAHO we’re very much complicit in the opioid crisis,a big part of their “educational material” that nurses and Drs. had crammed downed their throats was ,in fact, written by Purdue.
Our hospital had a clipboard nurses that came around every day checking charts to make sure patients had their pain issues were being addressed.I saw her wake patients up,pt. would say their pain was a “10” and then we were in trouble.
Discharge summaries were also monitored to make sure pts. were sent home with “adequate”pain control scripts.
Drs.(and nurses) just went along to get along.
