This dead horse topic that gets beat to death almost weekly is always between ULL (or UL) and LSU fans. The only real defender for ULM is Pedro and I have never seen that dude bitch about the ULL just taking the name "Louisiana". In fact, I don't think I have ever seen one ULM fan complain in one of these threads. Basically ULM people just accept it because at the end of the day, most of them just go to school there to get a degree with zero fricks given about athletics and the others are LSU fans for the most part and care more about them.

In this backwards arse state, LSU was appointed as “The” flagship. There isn’t a matrix or criteria to meet. It’s just designated as such.
Also, according to the Louisiana Legislature regarding higher education, there is 1 Flagship, 3 Statewide Universities and the rest of regional colleges.
The three statewide universities are:
UNO
LaTech
UL
The rest are regional colleges. So tell me why there isn’t a public university that goes by University of Louisiana?

Well I’m just so proud that the single Flagship university in this state is ranked 153rd. Brings so much pride.

ULM initially made a play for it just to piss off the Cajuns mostly and said screw it and did their own thing.

ULL is the welfare queen of (the state of) Louisiana college athletics and has used gimmickry over the years to convey the perception they have separated from the other state universities, excluding LSU. The most recent (pre-Covid) numbers available as reported by the state auditor's office show them consuming $7.5 million more taxpayer subsidy than second place Louisiana Tech and nearly $10 million more than ULM.
