RB Zach Charbonnet

quote:

Let’s get the most obvious out of the way now. Zach Charbonnet put a lot of people on notice with not only his impressive statistical outing, at 106 yards and three touchdowns on just six carries, but it was the way he ran. He ran angry. He flicked off Hawaii defenders like they were fleas just annoying him as he cruised to the end zone. The combination of Charbonnet and Brittain Brown is a very good running back duo and perhaps the biggest challenge LSU faces this week.

DE Mitchell Agude

quote:

Statistically speaking, no one player on the Bruins defense had an awesome outing. However, if you watched the game you saw just how dominant the Bruins were. Aided by an incredible ineptitude by the Warriors, UCLA’s pass rush sank its teeth deep into Hawaii and never let go. Mitchell Agude was the best player on the defense against Hawaii and a legitimately impressive defensive lineman who poses a big test for the Tigers’ tackles in week 1.

Charbonnet is absolutely a tough runner so our LBs better be a 180 from last year when it comes to tackling.

As far as their defense, I saw opportunities for Hawaii that they just didn’t convert.

It was good to see Mafi get the start last week. A 360 pounder should match up much better against LSU's tackles than Clemens, who might be 290 soaking wet.

I gotta ask, how long can a guy at 360 lbs last in a game? Conditionings gotta be hell at that size. Especially against an elite line like LSUs where they’re 8 deep.

We generally platoon our guards under Chip, to keep the biggest guys fresh since there is a lot of running and pulling in this scheme. That said, Mafi is a surprisingly spry guy for his size and his conditioning isn't bad at all. He came in at over 400 pounds so this is actually a trimmed-down version of him.

A couple other guys I'll mention: Sean Rhyan, who should be a first round pick in the NFL next season and maybe the best tackle LSU faces this season not named Evan Neal. He has the power and body type of a guard but tackle athleticism.

The other is Qwuantrezz Knight who plays the Striker position, basically a nickel safety. Probably the best leader on the team, and a huge hitter despite being only about 200 pounds. He would fit right in in the SEC, absolutely unafraid to stick his head in and hit someone 50 pounds bigger than him. He needs to get better in coverage.

Their whole left OLine will be good to watch and key on. They do everything and telegraph with the LG & LT. What’s really good for us is their LT is slow. Their OLine as a unit will be a good litmus test for our front to see how well we read, react, and play gap control.

Charbonnet has good speed but wasn’t challenged at the LOS nearly at all. His most impressive run was a full speed stutter cut leaving a LB tackling air. LB play will be important in this game but if our DLine can play proper gap control and win at the LOS our LBs will run free.

WR & TE = no factor.

Our OLine is perhaps the largest question marks of this team. The Center position is incredibly important for this game as the blocking assignments will get a little hairy against this front. They show a lot of window dressing with low frequency sending more than 5. This is where Peetz & Davis will earn their check. Hoping Davis has Shanahan prepared to play his part as well as Peetz ready for play calling duties. We can really hurt this team across the middle. Need Max to keep his cool in the pocket and let plays develop. My biggest fear is Deculus being put on skates and the miss communication of blocking assignments between the center and line/TE/RB.

I disagree.
A key UCLA player to watch is their TE. He's good.
He also will be matched up a lot with our LB's and safeties who last year were awful at times.
We will find out soon enough how much we have improved since last year in these key matchups.

Which one? The one who had 1 Rec for 15yrds or the other who had 1 Rec for 13yrds against Hawaii? I’m more concerned about them blocking than receiving.

You might have a look at last year's stats and let's see if you can figure it out.

So, you are not only stupid, you are lazy, too.
Their returning TE average 20 yds a catch last year (2d in the nation among TE's) and was second in the nation in TEs in yards per game.
The second stringer is 6'7", 266 lbs and a freak athlete.
UCLA has athlete's too.
Just not as many.

Boy that TE is going to kill us, especially with that QB! Lawd have mercy!!

Btw, pulled this from the other thread discussing the TEs. Found it somewhat relevant, idk though. Tell me what you think.
