I guess they have automatic oilers and automatic fuel level switches to? Look, I worked out there for over 25 yrs no one leaves anything running when abandoning platforms or rigs. Way too much shite can go wrong. That's why they have battery back up.

they seem to work just fine on jets, there's an auxiliary power unit in almost all of them, they auto shutdown for things like over temp, low oil pressure/quantity, fire, etc.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that all Shell platforms leave the E-gen running when they evacuate and some even leave a Turbine gen running if it’s dual fuel. Everything is automated and all safeties are in place to shut it off if need be. The batteries on the platform are there to keep life saving equipment in service when all else fails or to survive the loss of normal power before the E-gen kicks on with 45s.
