quote:

These teams may all look strong, but pollsters might want to think twice before inviting them to a BCS bowl. Why? Because their schedules just aren't cutting it. Take LSU, for starters. The Tigers' recipe for a national championship: Schedule the cupcake champ and get a TV deal with ESPN. Talk up Troy. Beat the stuffing out of North Texas. Start the "tough path" talk before you lose to an overrated SEC team. Barely stay with Tulane in the first half, then blow them away in the second. Play 75 percent of your games at home. Lose to another mediocre SEC team and repeat the "tough path" whine. Hoist crystal trophy.

:doublebird: :doublebird: :doublebird: :doublebird: :doublebird: :doublebird: :doublebird: :doublebird: :doublebird: :doublebird: :doublebird: :doublebird: :doublebird: and one more :doublebird: for good measure to FoxSports.

Notice they conveniently left out Vagina Tech. Yeah, the same ACC Champ, BCS-bound Vagina Tech that we absolutely skull-dragged for 60 minutes.

Notice they left out the convenient fact that in order to hoist that crystal trophy, we had to whip that Ohio State arse in the BCS title game.

LSU wasn't GIVEN the damn trophy you fricking morons!!!! LSU EARNED the damned thing!!!!! Other teams had a chance to earn it, but they lost to such stalwarts as Pitt, Stanford, South Carolina and the like to miss their chance at glory, so PISS OFF!!!!!

people bashed OSUs nonconference last year, but then also commented that they were smarter than other schools to do so. When the SEC gets bashed theres no silver lining. I mean we have to play 4 top 10 teams...what more do they want...

LSU plays Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Georgia. They can knock the nonconference schedule, all they want; I would like to see them survive the conference schedule that LSU faces.

I reported LSU being number one on this list as "inappropriate content". NOW they'll be sorry!

Why don't we schedule better OOC teams? It's not like we'd lose!

ETA: I'm kidding, there is a 5% chance we'd lose.

Discouting LSU by examing the bottom half of the schedule in terms of difficulty, while ignoring the reality of multiple consecutive top 15 challenges - while USC scatters 1-2 top 15 opponents over a full season is patent ignorance.

I have long given up on the idiot media in being able to create accurate analytical opinions and assessments of college football. They completely ignore the difference between playing road games against 55,000- 75,000 vice mutiple games in venues with 90,000 hostile fans and also ignore the rigor/stamina and health issues that are necessary to maintain a successful pathway through a schedule such as LSU's. They are pitiful.

I guess being the only team to finish 5-0 against the final top 15 is cupcake! (roll eyes)

the next best team was UGA at 2-1...USC was 1-1...give us a break people!

USC won and is not opposed by much. This is the media's response. They think they finally have that big TV year and seriously, they might. Nevermind that the SEC shedule is 10 times what USC's regular schedule is. The article even tries to call how the season will go for LSU, losing to in-conference teams and all.

Seriously, all we can do is pray for a USC loss. It's the only thing that will stop the USC train that boarded before the season even began.

We've got to expect this with 3 'cupcake' games. Maybe '2' is ok. I'm sure we have the toughest schedule in the nation the rest of the way through. We play 5 'top 10' teams.

Chill out guys. Whenever anyone starts harping on OOC, it means they are a USC / PAC-10 fan. The only thing that matters is strength of schedule. whether the teams you play are in or out of your conference doesn't mean diddly. But USC got burned on SOS a few years back so now they harp on OOC. because thats all they can harp on. It's marketing pure and simple.

You want to know the real reason we schedule cupcakes for most OOC games? It's not because we like to pad our stats (though thats fun). It's not because we need the warm-up games before the SEC schedule. It's because we get money! We need 7-8 home games a year. Fill up Tiger Stadium, sell lots of tickets, snacks, and advertising. We love that Saturday night in Death Vally! Now, SEC teams and most non-cupcake teams insist that you play in thier stadium too. fair is fair. The only way you can consistantly have >50% of your games at home is to pay some lower level teams to come in and be the Washington Generals to our Globetrotters. If USC or Ohio or any 'tough OOC opponent' was willing to play in Tiger Stadium for the same payoff that North Texas gets without insisting on a return home game, I am sure the athletic department would be happy to schedule them every year.

So now you know.

Last year the so called experts from espn and fox were creaming over App St victory over the great big 10's michigan - about how on any given saturday a team like App St could upset any Div I team. This year App St is a cream puff - just sayin'.

What is unbelievable that LSU still probably plays more ranked teams than anybody else in the country. All the ESPN or FOX experts are ignoring that fact because they are all kissing up to USC.
