My amateur analysis is that Pentagon and their backers are clearly setting this up for State Department to take the fall. I think it will be Blinken that gets the axe.
Cotton was taking shots on Fox just now and Petraus was backing Austin and Milley hard. Tells me Milley and Austin will have bipartisan support and this will be positioned as a "military doing the best they can given the State Department and Biden put them in a disastrous situation" which is very easy narrative for people to get behind.
Just my opinion though. I say Blinken will be the fall guy.

Because they brought troops back by order to assist in the evacuation of civilians. The military part was over, which is why they keep referring back to the State Department.
The military isn't even suppose to be in Afghanistan, those operations have been gone for months.
