A block or so away from 4 Corners is The Mills House. Beautiful old hotel with a gorgeous restaurant inside - The Barbados Room. Across the street from that are Poogan's Porch, Husk and 82 Queen, which are local favorites. I've never visited Husk, but the other two are right up there with the other places you've been pointed toward.
Up by Marion Square and The Francis Marion (already mentioned and a great choice as well) is 39 Rue de Jean. Really fun atmosphere and a great bar, and hands down the best French place in the city. It and Hall's are my favorite downtown restaurants.
Mt. Pleasant, right over the bridge, has some good fried seafood, cold beer type places. Red's or Vickery's on Shem Creek are pretty fun places, especially for brunch.
