Ragnarok on Netflix

Dubbed series but addictive in a guilty pleasure sort of way.
Season 2 just came out after a couple year hiatus.
Season 1 is a slow build to a showdown between a kid (becoming Thor) and the evil conglomerate (Giants) poisoning the human world.
But, 3 episodes into Season 2 and it is much faster paced with Loki joining the storyline.
Anyone else watch it? I can see how it's not for everyone, but the Norse mythology storyline in a contemporary setting is interesting to me.

It’s a good show
But sometimes the main actor looks so goofy I can’t help but laugh

2nd thread on this show here, but I'm enjoying the series. I'm glad they've moved the Loki story forwards and how it fits into the story.
The thing about Loki is you never know where his true allegiances lie, and I think they nailed the casting on him in particular.
Some of the dubbing comes off a bit clunky in the line delivery, but this isn't meant to be a Marvel level production. I think some may be turned off that if it's not a mega Hollywood production, the story can't be worth it. I think its a damn fun watch.

Couldn't agree more. He fits the role perfectly.
And, you're right on the dubbing as well. But, it is a great watch regardless, IMO.

I mentioned in the other thread there's a movie on Amazon Prime , MORTAL , set in Norway, done in a similar way as the Ragnarok series.
It's a bit darker than as some claim, the Twilight style story on Netflix, but I liked it. Again, not a MCU level movie, so don't expect great CG, though it's better than your typical Sy-Fy, Sharknado stuff.

I tried to watch it and the dubbing drove me crazy. I have a hard time watching dubbed shows, I think I would prefer just subtitles.

There is an option to use subtitles, at least.
I think most of the actors in Ragnarok, if not all, do speak English. Though with a heavy accent. Even so, who ever did say the English version lines did a pretty good job. The problem with dubbing, as I see it, is matching the translation and the inflection of the voices to match up with the structure of the sentences. The use of expressions or idioms which are common in some languages that don't pan out into other languages in a literal sense. Even in Brit speak, they'll use phrases that most Americans don't fully grasp. Like 'Bob's your uncle ', seems straight forward enough, but if you're not familiar with how it's used, you're left wondering what the hell they meant.
I just accept it as the small price to pay to follow along a story told by folks who speak a different language. If something sounds a bit clunky or off, I just dismiss it, and grasp the gist of the meaning, and move on.
Yet I think Ragnarok was one of the better dubbed efforts I've seen.

Was pleasantly surprised by the first season. Really enjoyed it. Watched the first episode of season 2 last night.
The dubbing doesn’t bother me. But every time Turid talks, my wife and I bust out laughing. She’s the only one that kinda throws us off.

Can't hurt, but they did a fair recap of the story to carry it forward. With only 6 episodes, it's not like there's a lot of depth you'd pick up, though I had half forgotten about Isolde, the cute activist chick w/ the freaking amazing eyes.

That's what I was wondering. Dubbing doesn't bother me when it's done pretty well, like in Babylon Berlin I barely noticed. But I tried '"Perfume," and the dubbing was so bad it was hard to get into, and the closed captioning contained different dialogue - probably adjusted for slang and idioms, but it was all off enough to be distracting from whatever was going on.

I am enjoying the show but also can't help but note the numerous and repeated LGBTQX stuff and the Climate Change storylines. I wonder if this is normal culture stuff in their country or itf it is just being pushed like Hollywood does. It's almost enough to start ruining the show for me but I am trying to ignore it.
I don't care that Loki is gay but they just push it over and over again. And his Mom keeps telling him how it's OK and how she went lesbian herself for a while. And the dude shows up at a school dance in his moms blouse and to a public event in drag and no one says a word. I mean come on.

As for the climate change stuff, I give a partial pass because it's Norway, and they're basically in the country, so being closer to nature is kinda expected. ( Plus, Greta comes from Sweden, so that part of the world is slanted that way.) But to be honest, toxic chemical pollution isn't 'climate change', and yet they're trying to bundle the two issues in together. I just view it as necessary for the story to be driven.
And for the sex stuff... again, a different culture. The mom seems a bit of a ditz. She's a widow with 2 teenage boys, and seems to allow pretty much anything, just to avoid conflict. When Magna is in his room with the Iman and making banging noises, mom and Laurits just assume they're gettin' frisky up there.
And as for Laurits, he knows his dress and antics will shock the townsfolk, but the show down plays their reactions. They notice it alright, but they also casually accept it, even if they may not be on board.
Laurits impersonating the principle and giving a speech in Season 1 was provocative and comical, which kinda gave his 'life style choices' a pass by the public at large.

Watched five of the six episodes in Season Two.
It's been great so far. The music in this show is really, really good.
Can't wait to finish it up tonight.

He does have a bit of a slack-jawed baw vibe going. Just a norwegian good ol’ boy that ain’t never done nobody no harm.

How unfair is that? Only 6 eps, and then we have to wait for another year? Assuming it gets renewed, which it should.
Feels like it should have at least 8, if not 10 or 12 episodes.

Just finished the finale.
Proud of my boy Magné for knocking the dust off Saxa.
Great season all around.
Now we wait a year.
