So my daughter and I were watching Swamp People, one of the episodes about tagging out on the last day of the season. Daughter asks, what if you fill your last tag, but you still have three or four lines left to check, any or all of which may have an alligator on them? How is this handled she asks?

I had no answer, how does that work?

I suppose you just cut the line, but I have no idea.

I'm guessing you better find someone with tags or figure out a way to get the gator off the line alive

You're only allowed two lines per tag on the areas around us in NWLA, so as your tags dwindle, so should your lines.

I had 3 tags several years back from WMA lottery program. We were allowed to set 2 lines per tag we had. Once you tagged out, you had to go pick up any remaining lines. If there was a gator on it, just cut the line. Hook will eventually rust out.

It was nothing like you see on Swamp People. Just slowly pull up the downed line and a 22 to the back of the neck and its over within a few seconds. All that thrashing around is because they intentionally agitate the gators for the TV cameras.

You cut the line....the enzymes in the gators belly will take care of the hook

the event that an alligator is hooked and the hunter's quota has been reached, the hunter must
immediately release the alligator in the most humane method possible. All hooks and lines shall
be removed when an alligator hunter's quota is reached.

Shoot gators. Put in boat. Clean gators yourself. Profit.

Prices for gators are in the shitter, so no point in worrying with the skins. I’d kill them just to thin the herd and eat them myself or give the meat away.

You check em all and tag the biggest for the number of tags you have.
