I like Rando. He’s not normally illogical and I enjoy is car opinions specifically. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt on this.

He must live in or have family in some of those old houses that are built on slabs in the floodway. And that emotional connection is undermining his ability to be pragmatic and logical on this.

The Baton Rouge metro area needs a regional transportation and flood retention authority to address some major infrastructure needs that require cooperation between multiple parishes. The region as a whole benefits when all of the parishes there grow together. Baton Rouge and Ibberville are not as appealing to major employers without Ascension or Livingston’s residential market or public schools. And they can’t develop of Baton Rouge and Ibberville fail to attract employers. They can’t fend for themselves or support growth independently without relying on each other.

Iberville is prime real estate for industrial development on the river. They are likely getting the new bridge in the Plaquemine area. Ascension and East Baton Rouge are more suitable for large scale residential development. They can’t frick over each other and expect the region to grow more competitive.

There is no regional leadership. It used to sort of be Holden and Jindal, but they are gone. And neither Broome nor Ourso has the intellectual horsepower to take up that mantle - and they don’t seem to even want to. The current governor is damn near hostile to the needs of the capitol region and LSU.

I hope redistricting gives the capitol area two house districts not shared with other major metro areas. That would really help.

No. I just believe in protecting the pragmatic rather than the foolish.
