Has anyone made a full switch to HomeKit compatible products? If so, do you recommend it, and are there some things (beyond HomePod/iPad) that are essentials. Have you found the overall results worth it?
I know that Apple is continually rolling out new products, so I’m also looking at future upgrades and compatibility.
***Wasn’t sure if this fit in Tech or Home and Garden***

We're Homekit, but we have some Nest products that sync via a little box (I forget the name). Overall it's ok, but I think both HomeKit and Google are just throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks. Nothing seems linear and there certainly doesn't seem to be much of a masterplan of where to take these platforms.
Our stuff is a mix of Hue, Eufy and Nest cameras. I've got some other assorted sensors but none that reliably work very well. I could put our MyQ garage door on Homekit but I don't think it's worth it really.
All the homekit compatible products work, but I think the setup breaks down at the Apple smarthome hardware and Siri. Google assistant or whatever it's called now is just much more reliable, and both Alexa and Google offer more hardware options for seeing cameras or the like.
I assume (don't know for sure) that I could get the newer Apple TV and "Hey Siri" that to see my front door on the TV or whatever.

I switched to HomeKit because of all the evil tech companies I do trust Apple with security more than others. Also the ability to store your own camera footage in your own cloud is very nice. It works well but like all smart devices it depends on wireless strength.

I’m looking into the HomeKit for various properties.
Apple is way more secure than google with their cloud stuff and overall encryption.
One thing to note is that the app needs a hub in order to control devices while away from a property.
I will probably get the HomePod Mini which can work as a hub and speaker for music.
Otherwise, I like the idea that I can turn on lights remotely or keep and eye on things through the varied accessories.
