Is it? I have family in Lake Charles who still hasn't gotten paid for the damage done from last year's hurricanes cause they have to take their insurance company to court.

I'll admit, I'm a new home owner and don't know a whole lot about how flood insurance works, but apparently my relatives are getting royally fricked by their insurance company.

Seems to me if you've never been even close to flooding, then paying extra for "peace of mind" might not be worth it.
