No area is completely sheltered from some bad weather, but if you put a risk heat map out there the gulf coast would not do well in comparison with most other places. I hate that people have to go through this, it sucks and I have lived through it multiple times. What I don't get is refusing to admit that it's a bad idea to stay. Multiple posts here already highlight that staying does not pay off in the long run.
