9mm is the best all around option IMO of rounds, ease of use, size of firearm, effectiveness (with hollowpoints even better), and selection/availability of firearms.
I have a couple of full size 9mm that are some of my favorite to shoot and I carry a 365xl that is really small and easy to carry for being such a reliable, accurate and comfortable weapon with a ton of rounds. And there are many small 9mm like that, hellcat was mentioned already. But also S&W shield, a few Glocks, etc also in same category. For a smaller person (elderly or female) that has trouble racking the slide, the shield EZ is awesome.
