9mm. Most people are not nearly the pistol shot they believe they are, especially when the adrenaline kicks in and the target is 3D and moving. Shot placement trumps caliber, and 9mm gives you more rounds and allows you to get back on target quicker.

A self defense round isn't just about what a bullet does to ballistic gel. If it was we'd all be carrying .44 Magnums.
