I've played a lot of the original game, up to having retired my third character last week.

The game is fun, but there's some management you have to stress. It's more than just your health; you discard cards and then lose one for the duration of the mission each rest. Some cards are lost when used. The smaller your hand, the fewer turns, so if you're not careful with rest timing and when to lose cards, you can end up out of the scenario.

Stamina potions are good to have to recover 2-3 cards without needing to rest.

I don't know how much JotL follows the same formula.
