I mean Woodward's entire history seems to be overpaying previous NC coaches to come in an take over. Not a single hire of his has won a conference championship in the major sports at any of his schools. Let that sink in.
Great ADs don't bargain bin search for a coach, but they also aren't overpaying for a coach purely based on past results and then holding the school hostage if it fails. Hell, this guy gave Ed O the extension and raise when no one else was going to hire him away from LSU even AFTER the 2019 season.

He was the AD at Washington and Texas A&M. It’s cool that A&M constantly jerks themselves off and pretends that they’re a top tier athletic program, but they were 1 of 3 teams in the SEC prior to his hiring that won 10+ games less than three times since 2000, along with Kentucky and Vanderbilt. They are an absolutely pathetic school for athletics and he got Jimbo to go there and now they’re ranked in the top 10 and getting more respect than 95% of programs out there.
