Reel mowers is all I had to use as a kid. My dad would cut the grass but he died when I was only 8, so the job fell on me and that was a real workout for a young, skinny kid with a good size yard. That mower did cut good, but like already mentioned, twigs or any other tough debris stops them on a dime.
I could probably get by with one with my current size yard considering 90% of the back yard is vegetable garden now with only long, narrow swaths of grass to cut and not much more for a front lawn.
Maybe after the power walk behind gives up the ghost, but then again, I'm now 68, so a reel mower is not likely in my future.
