I've been intrigued by the Martin Logan 40ti and 60ti. The 40ti fall squarely in your price range.

Checked out the Martin Logan 40i today and really, really like them, sound great. Top pick right now. Just have to sell my RF-7 IIs then I’ll get these 40i along with the model 50 center. Thanks for the tip.

Glad I could help.
Old school tip on sub placement. Put a sub in your seat. Play deep bass and walk around the walls of the room. When you get great bass response that is the spot you put your first sub. Then place the second sub on your seat. Walk along an adjoining wall to the first sub and when you get your best response place the second sub there on that wall. Old school method to reduce standing waves in the primary listening position.
ETA: Sub placement is about the listening position. It doesn’t matter how good the sub is if you have a hole at the listening position.
