Saints captains: We need a true public reckoning over the way police treat Black people

quote:
Last month marked the one-year anniversary of the tragic murder of Breonna Taylor by Louisville police. Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is currently on trial for the murder of George Floyd, a Black man who died after Chauvin pinned him to the ground for 8 minutes and 46 seconds by placing his knee on Floyd’s neck. We are 13 months removed from when a retired police officer and his son killed Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia, and seven months since a Kenosha police officer shot Jacob Blake seven times as three of his children watched from his car’s back seat.
quote:
Across the country, legislatures are in session and elected officials are considering legal restrictions that would improve our system of policing, limit its harm, and demonstrate to the public — specifically, the communities most impacted by police violence and surveillance — that lawmakers are committed to achieving a more fair and equitable criminal justice system.
quote:
Kentucky may punish the mere act of insulting a police officer. Some states are considering bills to allow bystanders to use serious force against protesters they “perceive” as using threatening behavior — an expanded form of the harmful and unequally applied stand-your-ground laws. The message from these laws is clear: People with power would rather silence and punish protesters than address the reasons people, and especially Black people, are continuously taking to the streets in the first place.

Drew Brees is retiring quarterback of the New Orleans Saints. This column is coauthored by New Orleans Saints Terron Armstead, Demario Davis, Malcolm Jenkins, Cam Jordan, Alvin Kamara, Thomas Morstead and Craig Robertson.

They're right.
We need to demand the resignation of racist officials. Like the architect of the crime bill. And dirty prosecutors. And small town mayors who tore down black people's homes. And governors who blocked access to sickle cell treatment.

Sounds like they’re going about voicing their concerns in the proper way. Nothing unreasonable in that article.
I’m sure there will be some sky-screamers here shortly, though.

Cool...while they're at it they might want to do something about the way opponents treat them in the playoffs.

Racist this, racist that. If you’re unsure about something or losing an argument? Call them racist! When will it all end?

Well at least this statement is correct. Police need to drop the hammer on criminal blacks. Just in their own city, blacks are 99% responsible for the number of homicides (many against whites), carjackings, armed robberies, aggravated batteries, thefts, and drug law violations. Clean this shite up police. No breaks, lock more of them up.
ETA: Blacks also need to treat the police and others better. shite goes in and shite goes out..not sure what they expect to happen.

How about address the elephant in the room and explain how 15% of the population commits the highest percentage of violent crimes. Maybe it's not the system.

I agree. If they can show me a cop, politician, or law that is plainly and undoubtedly racist in such a way that it negatively affects black Americans, I'll be right there with them in hoping something is done about that. Until then, I'll keep pointing to other issues that they and the media seem to willfully ignore. Like the number of black children born out of wedlock and raised in a single parent home, a culture that glorifies violence against women, guns as a cure all for any situation, and dealing drugs in a gang as a viable life choice.

I watched less Saints football the last two years than I ever have in my life. It was much easier to do than I had previously expected. With Brees now retired it will be even easier to cut them out entirely if necessary. The lecturing from people who are clearly not intellectually qualified to be lecturing on complex sociopolitical issues is not something self-respecting people are going to subject themselves to indefinitely. Sports is for entertainment and these guys aren't paid millions of dollars because their intellectual prowess affords them unique clarity on race, crime, governance, or any subject whatsoever outside of playing football.
These are adults playing a child's game and believing that their celebrity as athlete entertainers gives them some unique perspective or moral vantage point. It doesn't. And Drew Brees is such a coward and slave to his own financial interests. There is really no other way to interpret his newfound pandering after his retard teammates shitted all over him for daring to challenge their bullshite theatrics.

There are so many responses to this attitude of saints entitled millionaires but I'll just address one.
Black Americans could look to themselves, not whitey, for the epidemic of black children with no father in the home. That is the root of poverty, crime, moral decay, drugs, both use and dealing, gangs, etc. And some black mothers do the best they can but our culture preaches to black boys and girls the stereotypes of violence, drugs, sex with no concetn for consequences, victimhood. Our media and Democratic establishment have successfully kept black Americans as helpless victims, unable to take control and succeed on their own.
I am old enough to remember when LBJ's comments about the "Great Society" programs and 200 years were reported as news. That fact has largley been dismissed by our democrat media as myth. Those reparations programs destroyed the chances for so many blacks who aren't entertainers or good at games from climbing the ladder of the American dream.
Blacks were told by Democrats "you can't compete with every other ethnic and racial group that makes up America. Here is a check and now make sure you vote right".
The democrats were the proponents of:
1. Slavery
2. Jim Crow
3. Great Society handouts
And blacks still overwhelmingly support their masters. Incredible.
Black America will succeed when they take responsibility for their action and stop looking to others to blame. Blacks have not yet broken the chains of slavery. They just traded the metal chains for chains made out of lowered expectations, blame, and acceptance of the crumbs off the Democrat table.

Breonna Taylor wasn’t murdered. She was killed, it was tragic, but she was caught in a crossfire when her drug-dealer boyfriend shot at cops first and they then returned fire.
