Yeah. We have to get involved. I’m also trying to talk my step-dad, who is retired, very smart, and very pissed off about the state of the country, to run for board of education in his small Alabama county. No luck, so far.

My college roommate (RIP Brent), a Poli Sci major at UGA, moved to Wisconsin for work many years ago and got very active in his local community. He was convinced by a bunch of his friends to run for the local school board, an ostensibly non-partisan election.
After the election (which he lost), he told me he understood why we as a nation had the politicians we had. He had never experienced the level of vitriol and anger he saw in that campaign. Swore he'd never run for office again.
The 24/7 news cycle and invention of the Internet are why zero decent citizens will ever run for office. Who wants to endure that anal probe?

I would love to, but I don’t have the money to campaign and I would have to give up my job due to conflict of interest.
