The LSU Tigers' season-opening game on Saturday should not be significantly impacted by the weather or traffic coming out of New Orleans, athletics officials said.
LSU plays Appalachian State at 4 p.m. Saturday. Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge is located near Interstate 10, a major hurricane-evacuation route.
Strong winds from Gustav are not expected until Sunday night. Any contraflow traffic, should coastal Louisiana or New Orleans being ordered evacuated, are not anticipated before Sunday.
The storm is expected to make landfall on Tuesday. That location could be anywhere from Texas to Florida, although many projections put it hitting Louisiana as a hurricane.
