I think we all expect a transfer from one in the room after Spring practice, but wasn't really expecting this?

quote:

Last night, class of 2021 quarterback Cole Lourd of Brentwood School in Los Angeles announced that he was blessed to receive an offer from his dad’s alma mater, LSU, and thanked [Jake] Peetz, Russ Calloway and Derek Ponamsky for the offer.

quote:

Since LSU already signed Garrett Nussmeier in December and returns three quarterbacks with starting experience, plus has a commitment from 2022 sensation Walker Howard, this offer suggests to me that LSU may have some QB roster management concerns.

Ponamsky? This seems weird to have his name mentioned.

It's all speculation, but if Brennan struggles to come back from injury and TJ decides to transfer the QB room suddenly gets thin with just Max and Nuss.

History suggest that one of the 3 returning QB's would transfer before the season starts.

If Brennan is beaten out for the starting job by one of the second year guys then I wouldn't be surprised to see him go elsewhere. I doubt he wants to be a backup behind a guy who has MORE eligibility remaining.

Finley or Johnson might also decide to go if one is determined to be #3 on the depth chart. You'd hate to see a guy give up on LSU so quickly, but the Kyle Trasks of the world (i.e. guys who patiently wait for their chance) are becoming few and far between.

Either way, I don't see LSU entering the 2021 season with 4 scholarship QB's...unless they sign this Lourd kid. He's completely off the radar as far as recruiting ratings go (yes, I know there are always misses in the rankings. But they are right more often than they are wrong) and it seems like for the first time in a while LSU is somewhat stacked with talent in the QB room with more on the way (Howard). Seems like it would be an odd take for LSU and an odd place to sign for the kid...coming into a stacked QB room where at least 3 guys ALL have 4 years of eligibility remaining.

If Les Milas had had those types of concerns, he would still be coaching here.

But, unless they really see something in this guy, I would prefer to use our last scholarships on a position of need other than QB. Preferred walk on, fine.

Nobody can close the deal on a PWO quarterback quite like the Tugboat Captain.

Reports say it’s a full scholarship. He is very impressive on film. Remember no camps in California because of Covid so he was under the radar.

Lourd is nowhere near an SEC caliber QB. His dad is a billionaire alumni and this is a way of thanking him for all the “donations"

Watched his tape. He seems like a quality QB. Certainly not a top guy, but I would say that he looks like a 2nd tier Max Johnson. he has good footwork and a manageable arm strength. Pretty accurate, as well.

He is not an SEC caliber QB. We are wasting a spot if it’s not a PWO. Nothing against the kid but I saw them play.

His name has been thrown around as a potential recruit for a while. He's legit.

His offer list is

Columbia
NAU
Georgetown College
Brown
WKU
Sam Houston
Holy Cross
Idaho
ULL
FAU
Liberty
Middle Tennessee
William & Mary
Ole Miss
LSU

One of those is very much not like the others

Edit: I missed a few including Ole Miss. Still strange that his only P5 offers are Ole Miss and us.

Covering all the bases. I was very close to the exact situation in ‘03 when a QB left the first week of practice. Good move from the the staff.
