Part of me wants Nielsen and another part wants Pruitt

After the NCAA is done with Pruitt, he won’t be able to get any D1 job, much less an SEC job.

Every player that started on the Dline for us his last season at NC State was drafted. He is an unbelievable Dline coach and evaluator of talent. I hope it translates as coordinator (no reason to think it won't).

I hope we can get Pruitt as a LB coach at LSU. He probably won't get a coaching offer in a while and an on-field coaching should be better paid than an analyst job at Alabama.

Tennessee just fired Pruitt WITH CAUSE for information suggesting "serious NCAA violations". That's the UT Chancellor's words, not mine. LSU football is under current investigation for recruiting issues and you want to hire THAT GUY into the program?

I had never heard of the guy until like a week ago, but on paper it seems like a solid hire. “Amazing” seems just a tad premature

Fair question, how do Nielsen and Freeman compare? Is Freeman's experience better than Nielsen's? One could argue that Freeman is greener and riskier than Nielsen.
depends on how you define "greener" and in what context "experience" is used.

Freeman has been calling defensive plays longer (since 2016). Being around Finkel is definitely a plus.

But Nielsen has been around a lot of different programs (and thus other coaches). Seeing and participating in the ins and out of coaching defenses with a wide variety of styles/schemes/techniques is a plus.

So overall Freeman is "greener" than Nielsen. But, Freeman has more time doing the actual job that he was hired for than Nielsen has.

My personal opinion is that Freeman's experience is more valuable. But that doesn't preclude Nielsen from being able to "catch up" because he has more of an extensive background.

Excellent response. I was very disappointed that we didn't get Freeman, but just because he is the hot name doesn't mean he is better than Nielsen. We've seen Nielsen's name since the beginning so I know he is someone O really wants. Without trying to be controversial, Freeman being a minority enhances his stature and desirability as a hire and it is difficult to discern how they truly measure against each other. We'll have to see how they play out.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have similar ceilings and a similar level of risk.

so there’s not a single other DC candidate in the entire freaking country that’s better than this guy? When we pay top dollar?

Good lord.

I never said that. Nielsen is our first choice right now. You better hope we get him.

You realize that Nielsen might be the best DL coach in the nfl right?

He’s destined to move up.

I'm curious what the average stint is for P5 coordinators*hint hint for some to do some research lol*

I know its a great problem to have that your coordinators get hired away for better jobs, but dang it, it is frustrating
