Bill Finger, co-creator of Batman

He never got money or credit for it: "Bob Kane's father was a lawyer who saw to it that Kane got in on it, while Bill Finger was shy"

A Finnish Brewster Buffalo 239 fighter (BW-352) of (Squadron) Lentolaivue/24 at Selänpää airfield. 24th June 1941

(Yes, that’s an American made fighter, emblazoned with swastikas, though its Finnish, not German swastikas.)

Hollister Riot (1947)
quote:

More motorcyclists than expected flooded the small town to watch the annual rallies, as well as socialize and drink. A few of the motorcyclists caused a commotion in the town.

The incident, known afterwards as the Hollister riot, was sensationalized by the press with reports of bikers "taking over the town" and "pandemonium" in Hollister. The strongest dramatization of the event was a photo of a drunken man sitting on a motorcycle, possibly staged by the photographer by surrounding the scene with discarded beer bottles. It was published in Life magazine and it brought national attention and negative opinion to the event. The Hollister riot helped to give rise to the outlaw biker image.
The incident would be dramatized in the Marlon Brando film The Wild One

I had this one.

I remember we got to wear our Halloween costumes to school and I split the crotch of the plastic pants playing on the playground. That had to be like 2nd grade.

The term “1%er” came from the Hollister riot.

It appears that Kane not only got all the credit, he got the Catwoman too.

Learned to drive a 4, no not 3, on the tree in one of those.

I had a Mercedes Benz a little older than that in 1974, a 1959 220S, black, rounded fenders, wood dash and window trim, and separate heater/vent controls on driver/passenger side.

And yes, it had a 4-on-the-tree, really weird.

I also had a girlfriend at the time, in the same league as the one pictured, but I stupidly messed that up.

Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of the car, or the girl, let alone the girl with the car. But the car was like this:

Me as a kid after dad and his brother had a nice morning hunt.

Back then, the gas stations would fill your tank and check the oil. Several hood emblems had to be replaced whenever the overly eager attendant would try to open the hood with it. Dad was not amused.
