This has smoke.

Today is either going to be the biggest collective chest bump for LSU nation or a good solid melt.

I’m feeling really really optimistic based on the words of a few folks with sauce.

i guess this should answer all of the questions about Callaway being a QB coach, or analyst. No more room. Probably.

I don’t see why Callaway would lose his job as an analyst. He just won’t get an on field promotion.

It was reported that Calloway was getting a on the field postion. If that is true he might be the QB/te coach. If he gets a spot there is no way lsu can bring in another coach.

I'd rather Raymond just coach all the DBs.

They can give him a raise and tell him he’ll get consideration for an opening next year. If he wants to stay he’ll stay. He probably was going to be PGC if they had just hired one guy to be OC. There’s obviously something they like more about Mangas in that role.

Maybe, maybe not. I have no inside info, but let me explain my thinking/hypothesis.

There is talk of Terry Joseph joining the LSU staff. He is a native of New Orleans and is respected by the NO HS football coaches. Mickey Joseph is prominently named in the Title IX documents concerning Drake Davis. Presently, Mickey recruits NO for LSU. If for some reason Mickey cannot be retained because of his involvement in the Title IX mess, the hire of Terry makes sense, otherwise it would appear to be a redundancy of NO area recruiting. If this is the case we will need to replace the WR coach, voila Calloway is an on-field coach.

A few things.

A) Doesn't freeman specialize in DBs? Why would we hire a safeties coach if the DC is also a DB guy? Would make much more sense to get a LB coach instead of Joseph unless Joseph can coach LBs.

B) if Terry is the back up to New O recruiting due to Mickey title 9 issue and he is out, wouldn't russ be better with qbs and mangus better with WRs. Mangas and Brady were both WR at W&M and mangas helped brady with the WR drills at LSU prior to 2019 season.

Analyst can only make so much. I think the ncaa put a cap on it at $75,000.

That works. I was not saying necessarily Calloway to WR coach, just that a spot would be open on the offensive coaching staff (maybe should have clarified that better, was trying to keep the post as brief as possible).

Impossible. Because no way Freeman is coming here. We need to start going down the list. Who is plan B C D?

He played and coached LBs. So opposite of all you just said.

I think that you are exactly righ re: Terry Joseph.

I think he is New Orleans recruiting insurance in case we loose Mickey Joseph in the Title 9 mess.

If we do loose Mickey then you could make Mangus PGC/WR just like Brady was and then make Russ Calloway the QB coach.

If we can close the deal on Freeman then the rest will take care of itself as the Title 9 mess plays out. If Calloway decides not to wait it out then that is his decision to make.

Just close the deal on Freeman.

He may get an on-field offer elsewhere, but it won’t be at a program like LSU. If he’s smart, he will stay on as lead analyst, keep working with the QBs, and then be ready for the next time an on-field spot opens up. It may only be a year or two before that happens. If he stays and proves that he’s worth it, he’ll get it. If not, he’ll leave.

I like Callaway and hope he stays here, but this isn’t worth all of the hand wringing and mental gymnastics. We made what looks like a really good OC hire and he’s happy with the guy he brought with him. The rest will sort itself out soon.

Baylor may have a spot for him. Aranda seems to like the staff.
