The X’s and O’s put our players in position to be successful. The players did the rest.

LSU wasn’t doing anything groundbreaking schematically last year. They found ways to exploit opponents’ weaknesses, sure, but there weren’t many gimmicks. When you have a #1 pick NFL QB, 3 NFL WRs, an NFL RB, and 3 (possibly 4) NFL offensive lineman on the field, you don’t need a lot of gimmicks. You just put them in a position to do what they do best. And that’s what the staff did.

While we had all of those guys in 2018, nearly all of them were first time starters that year. That’s not to say the schematic changes from 2018-2019 didn’t matter - the RPO and the shift to less protection/more passing options made a huge difference. But I don’t think we would have seen the same level of success in 2018 even if we had been running the exact same offense.
