A lot of people like Reolink because it honestly cannot be beat in terms of price/performance and the app is not terrible. They do person/vehicle detections, but the bad news is they charge monthly if you want "rich notifications", which just means the phone notification you get will include a thumbnail photo of the event. If you don't pay then you'll still get a notification and you'll just have to tap to load up the video.

I still have a preference for UniFi Protect. A lot of people think they are overpriced, and maybe they are but not terribly so IMO, but for years they have had the best app by far and nobody else seems to be trying to come close. There are no monthly fees and you get rich notifications for free.

I've never heard of anyone disappointed with their purchase of either Reolink or UniFi.

There are many other options, most priced about the same as UniFi or higher, and generally the tradeoff is the apps suck but the video quality is better.

i have reolink, but while i've got them wired up, they are not 'active' meaning i haven't pulled the blue tape off the lens or set up person detection.

so far my biggest gripe is there doesn't appear to a differentiation between someone ringing the reolink doorbell and generic motion detection.

still messing with things, but so far i'm a bit underwhelmed w/ how the notifications work.
