I have a 7 year old that I would love to build a arcade machine for. Any good beginner resources I should be looking at or recommendations on where to start?

Christmas is over so make frequent trips to Walmart looking for close out acrade1up cabinets.

I paid $75 ea for the 3 I bought but even at $200 it's a steal.

The 2 player units like marvel or mortal combat are the easiest to turn into multicades since they already have holes for 12 buttons and 2 joysticks.

As for modding it, there are guides on reddit that show you what you need to buy (budget roughly $125-$150) which includes everything you need.

Pop by here before you order anything and we'll make sure you're ordering the right stuff. It's all at Amazon so worst case scenario you have to send some things back and order something different. No big deal there. The reddit guides are so-so but they don't always keep up with newer/better components.

I've helped 4 neighbors go through this process so I've gotten it down to a science. every middle aged dude who grew up in the 80s wants one of these.

Finally if you don't have a Linux box at home you at least need a pc with an sd card reader and 1tb free space so you can download a few different image files to try out as your arcade content. That's the fun part.

It's actually really easy to do as long as you have everything you need when you get started.
