Butch Duhe was a hell of a QB but the poor guy died while at LSU.

Really everyone should sit down and think about a rating system that would look something like this:
Arm Strenght:
Accuracy:
Reading covers:
Clock management:
Ability to get away from the rush:
Running ability:
Leadership:
etc;
Grade each canidate on a 1-10 scale.
Russell & Jones both get high numbers on Arm Str.
Herb will get very good numbers on running and getting away from the rush.
Just think it out a little.

Adono-
Read my post above. You mention a dozen qbs and still no Hillman. Does anyone even remember him?

Hillman is one of the top 2-3 QB's of the 1960's.
Having Rabb on a list above Flynn or Mauck is little much.
Rabb had one very good year and two poor years.
The question on Rabb is still would Reynolds have been better as the starter in 1957?

I wasn't saying Hillman was the best QB. He was certainly in the top 8, and had one of the best individual years of any QB.
I'm just wondering why everyone seems to have forgotten about him.
He was certainly as good as half the QBs on Adono's list.

Bert Jones
JR
Tittle
Hodson
Mauck
Screen
Stokely
And let's not forget David Woodley (RIP) was a rookie QB with the Dolphins in the Super Bowl.
Rabb
Hilman
Can't forget Tyler and the '97 Florida win, either.
Ensminger, Wickersham, Buddy Lee, Trey Prather (killed as a result of Viet Nam)
Really can't compare all of the above because of the difference in eras.

No one mentioned Alan Risher, who had a remarkable senior year.

Dude have you just started watching LSU football since 95?
Jones and Hodson have to be ahead of Flynn, Mauck and Tyler. I liked Herb but he wasnt top ten as far as QB

People that can't imagine they would love Herb Tyler as much as they love JR are people that 100% jumped on the LSU bandwagon since 2003. Same thing with the Rohan Davey thing.
Anybody who lived and died for LSU over the years would never consider JR the greatest. That is just for the bandwagon fans or the #1 NFL fans (and to you people, JR couldn't get it done at LSU, what makes you think he'll get it done in the NFL?)

Wow! Fighting Tigers tell us how you really feel.
I have seen every Qb on my list play, Russell is the most talented Qb in LSU history and only Bert Jones is close.
I saw Y.A. on tv play pro ball in 1964 and saw all the others play at LSU.
Russell may or may not make it as a pro, far to many factors at play to tell, QB in the pros isn't like rb.
A rb can come in and play with ease, but QB with todays near non-contact rules means QB's that start have near life-time jobs.
Some great college football QB's never had a real chance at the pros, this due to what team drafted them more than any other factor.
Herb Tyler is a very good QB, but the question really is what do you want in a Qb?
With your pick of Herb, I would say your looking for a running qb who could throw a mid range pass.
You would have loved David Woodley, his best pass was across the body on the run, much like Russell would throw at times.

LSU didnt win the NC while JR was here, but JR accomplished plenty. you spout a lot of stupid shite. so any QB that doesnt win a NC in collge wont stand a chance at the super bowl?
taking a quick glance at some of your post, looks like you live to slam JR every chance you get around here.

Hey Doc,
I see you brought up Doc Fenton, nice pick but well before our time to see play.
I can tell what type player he was and tell of many of his passes, but due to the nature of the game at the time; it is very hard to judge what he could have done.
1st One had to pass box to box (the football field was a checker board), only being able to pass to either side or the box straight ahead.
2nd The ball is much larger back then, more of a rugby type ball, which made it harder to throw; so its hard to tell his effectiveness as a passer.
Even with the two throws that beat Auburn in 1908.
3rd Also the field is 110 yards long, which makes it harder to score, but the team that scores does get the ball right back; as the defending team has to kickoff. Which makes it harder to judge the scoring, also a TD is 5, FG 4, extar point 1 or 2, safety 2.
The only great I left off besides Doc is Abe, and Abe played with a smaller ball than Doc; but still larger than todays ball.
Abe got hurt twice and was limited in play his last two seasons at LSU, much like Nelson.

IMO, JR was the least impressive black QB for LSU (except for the Notre Dame game in the Sugar Bowl). To me, the most impressive black QB for LSU was either Davey or Herb Tyler... I'm pretty certain that Jordan Jefferson will also join Davey and Tyler as the most impressive black QBs for LSU.
Since he got booted, RP doesn't count, unfortunately.
What a fricking joke. Seems like you're some clown who created an account just to come on here and spew shite.
