I had an 18' action craft very similar to this one, owned it for about 5 years and fished everywhere from the canals in Westwego to the nearshore rigs in grand isle..sold it and bought a bigger boat but this was perfect for what you are describing

Majek Extreme, Trans Sport XLR8, Older Lake n Bay, Hewes 21, Haynie Lowside would all be good options for inshore bays and lakes in Texas, if you want to run offshore on good days I'd recommend jumping up to the 25' Majek Extreme or 24' Haynie HO instead of the shorter models. Biggest issue with finding the happy medium is the free board, need enough to run offshore even on smooth days but that is also the biggest hindrance when bass fishing out of one in my opinion, the perfect boat still hasn't been made.

We took our kids on the boat from Biloxi to Ship Island years ago and were passed on the way by a guy in a bass boat; he didn't make it to the island.
