Obviously I agree that the word “suicide” appears on that crime log, but I stand by my statement that it seems very unlikely that a student committed suicide on campus and there isn’t a single news report of it.

This is the "Today Show" version of how we got here - every alcohol fueled event involving fraternities that results in an issue is deemed a hazing issue. Which inflates the public's sense of the"problem." The number of genuine "drink or you're out" or the indirect equivalent incidents is incredibly small when compared to the number of incidents that are more accurately described as "members or pledges who drink too much at an event." And those, which are nonetheless categorized as being related to hazing, are identical to the non-greek counterparts and likely do not occur at a higher rate than non-greek incidents.

So to summarize your stance (I think): Most alcohol-related events categorized as “hazing” are really due to pledges getting too drunk. “Drink or you’re out” incidents make up a tiny portion. Fraternities are being unfairly targeted.

Does that sum it up? Because if so - OK, I guess. But here’s what happened according to the police:
quote:

According to the affidavit, Reynolds had called several fraternity pledges to his off-campus home saying “hope you’re ready to get hammered if you pull up.”

Police say Reynolds then instructed the pledges to finish all the alcohol given to them and wouldn’t let them leave until they had. Witnesses told police that Reynolds kept bringing out more alcohol, saying they hadn’t finished the previous bottles fast enough.

This looks like a pretty black-and-white “drink or you’re out” type of hazing incident. A kid had to go on life support, and is probably lucky to be alive. I don’t know how anyone can reasonably argue that this is just normal peer pressure / overconsumption.
