Retrieving data from a corrupted, crashed, contaminated hard drive is not easy and is not $89.00.
It is not geek squad level and starts at $1200.
Advise to board: back up frequently and to several hard drives

Takes less than an hour to remove a sealed hard drive from a damaged PC/laptop, connect it to an external enclosure and copy the contents off of it. Data xfer across USB is about 1gb/minute as a rule of thumb but you won't normally be charged for the copy time since it can be left unattended. If the drive is badly corrupt it just takes longer to copy the contents but no tech interaction is required.

Looks like the $85 estimate was for a standard one hour minimum of labor.

I paid about $100 to have this done at Computer Heaven in Baton Rouge, off Florida by the old mall. They were very nice and had it done in about 24 hours.

I was thankful as they were able to retrieve pictures of my little girl who passed years ago. Love those guys
