Please ask them what the hell is an "Aggie" anyways. Why do they burn huge logs, have a collie as a mascot, kiss after TD's, think they're a military academy and wear those ridiculous General Patton pants!!

Google some of the old A&M message board material and you will find near unanimity that LSU backed out of the series because A&M was dominating it AND did so in violation of our contract with A&M. They will further assert, without any fear of contradiction, that LSU breached the contract owing A&M hundereds of thousands of dollars.
Now, I know Aggies are deluded and their board reflects the Jonestown-Koolaid syndrome, but how did they come up with this scenario. They all appear to believe this.

Verge even said LSU backed out of the last 2 games in an interview with The Advocate last Summer. It had nothing to do with the SEC format changing because we played them 92-95, with the last one being on Dinardo's watch. The bottom line is Dinardo was chicken shite.

Yeah, I really wish we could play the following non-conference every year:

Cupcake to open the season
Texas A&M - Tiger Stadium, Kyle Field, Reliant Stadium, rinse, repeat
Intersectional BCS school - like Washington, Ohio State, Michigan, Virginia Tech, etc
Tulane sometime in November

When the SEC expanded and we had nore conference games LSU had to be more selective about OC opponents. Not that Texas A$M was a bad choice but we couldn't have an SEC schedule + A$M every year and then play a team like Virginia Tech.

Texas A$M called us wussies and all sorts of names. However, they are beginning to see the light. Being in the BIG 12 as opposed to the SW conference (SMU, TCU, RICE, HOUSTON, TEXAS, TEXAS TECH, BAYLOR) they understand our situation.

LSU should have a home and home series with the Aggies every decade. I think they are still too pissed about us braking it off in 1995 to do a deal.

some of us are not old enough to rememeber this, but, the aggies were a warm up game for yrs in the 60's and 70's, then they screwed up and won a couple and the payday was nixed

Things change. The SWC dismanteled, A&M joined the Big-12, the SEC grow in number and divided into a couple of divisions, and we became a perennial power while they remained a second-tier program.

In order to keep their coaches from being lynched by the fans, they can't afford another guaranteed annual loss.

"Bucky Richardson"

Gawd that is a blast from the past. I remember in 1988 when we beat their arse 27-0 in Tiger Stadium. Bucky started that game, and all he heard everytime he went on the field was "Buck-eee" "Buck-eee"......the Daily Reveille headline that following Monday was "Semper Fi 27-0!!!".......what a great memory.

A&M didn't really fit in with Rice, North Texas, Houston, New Mexico State, Tulane, UTEP, Akron, Arkansas State, Idaho, and San Jose State. Notre Dame was the only other OOC team with a pulse we played during that 5 year period, so it had nothing to do with scheduling other teams. LSU, with Dinardo's urging, simply bitched out.

I was just about to write that exact same thing. I will always blame Dinardo, not Joe Dean, for LSU's change in philosophy in OOC scheduling. ND and A&M were already under contract when Dinardo came to LSU, which was the only reason those games were played.

There were 3 games left in the A&M series when he arrived and he managed to talk Dean out of two of them. I hope we aren't going back down that path. We shouldn't be afraid to step to the plate and play with the other big boys.

Couldn't agree more. I don't understand the "scared to lose" mentality of some. If we're that good, we should WANT to play good OOC.

Not sure we could deal with their fanbase. They are almost as bad as the gumps. We all know that's pretty bad.

You do realize that the corps band/rotc is 1500 kids out of 47000 students. We're hardly pretending to be a military academy. I know they're easy to make fun of... hell most of us make fun of 'em too, but they just happen to be the band which is a part of the stadium that gets shown a lot on gamedays. It is what it is.

I know we'd get our asses handed to us this year and probably the next couple of years, but if you remember LSU didn't stand much of a chance against A&M in the 90s. Times change, cycles happen and things could be much different 10 years from now... or not, but we'll see what Sherman can do for us.

If anything, we should just set up a tailgating showdown and drink each other shitty.

There wouldn't be much a showdown tailgating JJ&A.......

I have been to Texas A&M games several times, and the atmosphere, while decent, is nothing compared to Baton Rouge.

are there any schools that compare numbers wise? I mean, we can only fit 70-80K tailgaters on campus (120K people for Texas last year), but gawl damn you guys can fit 200K+ for the big games, like Florida and Auburn last year.

I'll be down for UGA, so I hope its a night game.
