Chase was allowed to opt out of this season because of the unique circumstances surrounding Covid. Hopefully, those circumstances won't exist next season. Theoretically, I suppose there is nothing that prevents Stingley from sitting out next year even in the absence of a pandemic. However, NFL executives and coaches may not view opt outs as favorably in the 2022 draft, when there is no pretext for the decision. It would be risky. Other DBs who elected to play could surpass Stingley.

Be prepared for this to become a trend for a select number of players each year. Stingley being one of them.

The nfl would rather the player not play. Less wear & tear on the body.

A player like Stingley only gets surpassed if he gets injured. Which is a lot less likely if he’s not playing

This is true and something he will have to take into account. Nobody likes the "rules don't apply to me" guy. Although if the talent is there, they often overlook it.
