It was the public's demand for more regulations and lawsuits that created those laws. All of this stems largely from politicians, who largely happen to be lawyers, seeking to increase control and power.

I'm all for defense lawyers though. Someone has to be there to defend the people from the state, who enacted the illogical laws in the first place.
