There is a small margin between the door being just barely open enough to not trigger the sensor, but big enough to let the temp warm up just slightly. I think more of the problem is if the door isn't closed fully, the water to the ice maker splashes around and that splatter freezes. I'm just guessing there. I haven't really looked too close at it. Just defrost it and dry it out then move on.

I'm not advocating for or against Samsung. OP asked for experience and I gave mine. No real issues other than those that are self inflicted.
