The ULL system is getting their arse handed to them now that LSU went to holistic admissions.

And good luck with that funding model. Tuition increases can only be approved by the state legislature. What makes fiscal sense today will bite them in the arse tomorrow

LSU went to holistic admissions because they need butts in the classrooms. It's the same reason the LSU system increased the acceptance rate and lowered the ACT score to a 22 on the sliding scale. The school has grown so much that they are running short on funding for some of the majors that shouldn't even exist. What they should be doing is consolidating their top departments and cutting from the ones that have barely any students majoring there. Also right now, we are experiencing budget shortages in all 3 university systems; so adding students even with decreasing tuition will allow for more funding to certain colleges within the universities (the more students in the art school, the more funding the art school receives). Again, consolidation across the board. I remember when I was at UL(L) ten years ago, they cut the Philosophy department and consolidated it with English. There was a protest on campus about it. Well, when only SIX students are majoring in the subject within a university of close to 20k, why should the state fund that? More schools, including LSU, need to put their foot down and do the same.

The issue that I have with all of this is the fact that, as others mentioned, we are not focusing on the big picture here......the job market. We will now charge less for students to attend our schools as they will still leave for a job in Texas, Georgia, etc.

Until we bring more industry to the state, nothing will change.
