Similar, but Pete did things neva seen before. Or since.

So did Burrow.

Let’s say burrow fizzles in the NFL (God forbid). Does his status here change from now?

If he goes on and wins 4 Super Bowls obviously he will get more recognition. But Maravich never won an NBA title though he had a good pro career.

Pete is in the NBA Hall of Fame. It was better than a good career.

Absolutely. He would still be remembered similar to Billy Cannon and a step above Matt Flynn and Jamarcus Russel.

If he succeeds in the NFL, he will eclipse Shaq-level celebrity and renown.

Probably. It’s unfortunate, but that’s the reality. Consider this: in the time Tom Brady has been in the NFL, we have had Rohan, Mauck, JaMarcus, Flynn, the Jefferson/Lee fiasco, Mettenberger, Etling, and Burrow (among others). Granted, Tom Brady’s 20+ year career is not the norm - but it does emphasize how little time we get to watch college athletes play.

Burrow played 2 years at LSU. His first year was good, but certainly not earth-shattering. His second year was the greatest we have ever seen. His NFL career will really determine how he’s remembered 30 years from now, in my opinion.

If he fizzles out he will still be remembered as the best quarterback in LSU history. But if he balls out in the NFL, there’s a much better chance he’s remembered as the best player in LSU history.

(I’m not saying it’s right, I just think that’s the reality of decency bias and short college careers.)
