my dad has an 18’ G3 and loves it. He recently put a new 90 4 stroke Yamaha on it.

It’s a great all around boat.

Yea...Had an ST175 Stinger; really good boat and 95% of what I know about boating I learned on it.

I've got a 2002 18ft SeaArk with a center console. They are solid boats and I would definitely buy another one.

But that doesn't answer my question. 100 gauge aluminum would be about 0.001 of an inch. Havac claims to have 80 and 100 gauge aluminum hulls. My Weld-Craft doesn't give a gauge, just says its 0.1 inch thick. I'm just trying to get an understanding on the thickness. I'm aware there are different grades.

Aluminum gauging doesn't have a hard standard in gauge thickness like wire, especially not one actually used by those who aren't material suppliers. By 80 and 100 gauge, they mean approximately .080" and .100" thickness, which would translate to 10 or 12 gauge in the standard for aluminum used by most material suppliers.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, didnt wanna make a new one. As I predicted my little 15 hp JB mud motor (it is a LiFan engine on an Xpress 15/46, boats in really good condition so it was worth what I paid for it for the boat alone) finally crapped out on the ride to the blind the other morning and we had to push pole back to my buddies dock and take his outboard then drag it to the blind once we got to the mud boat water.

it was fun breaking ice and all but I was wanting to find something quick and throw it on there and I know people will get those predator ones but something about harbor freight and engines gives me pause. I am not a fan of financing but I also don't want to blow money on something I could put down on another motor but I wasnt sure if GTR Tail or Go Devil even did that if you didnt buy a boat too.

The old motor can be saved but I just would rather put the money into a newer motor as that one is about 10 years old and everything is rusty and seized up.

TLDR: has anyone had any luck with the larger Lifan engines or Predator v twin engines (surface drive)?

Lund, alumacraft or crestliner. For a fishing boat anyway.

Fit's on a ladder rack. Good on gas. And it's harder to get more in contact with the water.

I have a 16 ft lowe big river that I use for marsh fishing. Great boat.

Excel boats are probably nicest looking

That would be badass for some public land spots I walk to, make it easy to fetch cripples atleast.

I should have bumped a Motor thread my bad. I already got a decent boat I just need a somewhat quackish motor to throw on it. That little 15 hp LiFan SD was clocking 11 mph in the river which was deep -ish with me and a buddy in it and he prolly weighs 120 lbs. (when new they on YouTube they were showing them running 18-23 with one person and minimal gear). I think by the time parts got replaced and rebuilt I'd spend close to something new or enough to make it not worth it and still be worried about it breaking down. I also will probably be needing something for shallow and deep which is the only reason I was keeping a SD (that and I have all the parts except a new motor at this point).

Would never buy. From floor rivets popping, to multiple hulls completely separating, to complete lack of service after the sale. I have never seen so many issues with an aluminum boat brand. Stay away.

LA Boat Dealer in Metairie has a good selection of used aluminum boats.
I bought one there this year.

Oh no... look again.

They took the center thwart out and with that added width (of oarlocks) and seats that'd be awful to even flip over. Much less carry. Plus there's no center something to put on your shoulder. Plus they got something funky going with the wood mounted rear oar. Like maybe one for each guy? And the seat(s) don't slide. Plus where the seat use to be (big rust spot) is too big of an open area. So it'll probably not only be weak and flimsy but oil can. . . . We wouldn't let you buy that.

That's more like tie up to a dock or for taking a cooler of drinks across the slough on a hot afternoon.

i had a 15x48 flat front and then i bought a 17x52 semi vee front

both were solid built like a rock, top quality boats, that i loved.

i put both of them through hell and they just laughed it off, i wouldnt buy anything else if i had to replace it again

I already have the Xpress and I know a ton of people that have been using them for years. I haven't had problems with the boat. im just trying to figure out if anyone has messed with Predator v twin engine for a surface drive.

I have a Lowe 1860 Roughneck with a 90 on it. Spend most of my time on the Missouri and Mississippi rivers here in Missouri. I have zero complaints. It’s tough as nails. There are other good brands out there . I’ve had a G3 and Tracker 1752 as well. G3 was my least favorite.
