The super fest has nothing to do with the field conditions. Three months is plenty of time to have the field ready to go for the season as it always is. As for the staff they are more than qualified with experience and education. The science of managing turf isn't different in Mississippi, so hiring a MSU grad will not change the fact that the field does not get enough sun light in the late summer and fall months. Tiger stadium has many challenges that are being managed by experts in the turf industry. The latest technologies and management practices in turf management are being utilized I can assure you. With that said I have no doubt the drainage and playability will improve with this renovation. In years past all they've done is amended the upper profile due to lack of resources or choosing to go cheap, and a few years back they even ran into unmarked campus utilities under the playing surface. Apparently they have figured out the utility problem and they are able to do a more extensive profile renovation now. Coring out 18 inches should allow them to properly construct the field to drain properly. There are also systems that can be connected to the drainage lines to blow air through the profile to dry it out very quickly similar to what is used on golf courses like Augusta. I'm not sure of the turf variety they will install, but I'd hope it's not celebration which is what has been installed the last few times. There are newer better performing varieties on the market now that offer better shade and cold tolerance and require less cultural practices. That's just my two cents. In the future I'd respectfully ask to not take shots at the staff that manage the fields. I do not know them personally but I am in the turf industry and I take offense when I see my peers attacked especially when the information isn't accurate.
