My point was the parents who hold their kids back will have to confirm if THEY did it solely for sports.
that’s dumb. No parent is ever going to say that

We’d do them during homecoming because the afternoon pep rallies would take the gym.

Coaching/system/fundamentally sound. Was Northside any good before Rick Lebato got there? I don’t recall.

STM has good coaching a vast talent pool to pull kids from and the resources to be successful in athletics. It’s past time for them to move up to division 1 for all sports to level out their playing field and competition.

This. I went to a feeder school, played for Danny and coached at one of the feeder schools. Taught the same system and principles right down to the verbiage. Used to be he’d go get the best athletes in the area as well but that’s not as important nowadays with the split. He still gets good athletes organically from non-feeder schools whose parents truly do want a better school environment.

In HS, a consistent system/style and solid feeder schools or a lower school running the same system is huge, especially in football, and to a slightly lesser degree, in basketball. Arguably most really good HS programs have this going for them. Add in the ability to cherry pick a few really good athletes from elsewhere occasionally, and you might have the makings of dynasty.

He also does a good job of keeping alumni involved. I’m only 32 and can still run a little bit so we’ll get some of the alumni my age and a little younger and go play the current team in the summer in open gym. It’s one thing playing against high school kids in summer league but it also helps to play against grown men who also know how to play the game and want to see you succeed.

I think he’s got another 10 years or so in him if he wants it. He’ll probably end up with the most wins in the history of the state.
