The phoniness of our outrage culture has turned us into warring reactionaries. We are programmed to react and we just take our social cues and run with it prior to even really understanding the issues.

I’m not responding to the rest of your post. This is a ridiculous thing to say while you’re circulating speculative information out the other side of your mouth.

Thanks OP. Good post.

Americans are reallllly stupid and with not much biology education, they could never understand all that type of terminology .
Good luck for 90% of Americans to explain genomes

That's all well and good, however let us look at where the worst cases have been and their populations.
Italy 27,980 infected 2158 dead 60,487,080 population .046%
China 80,881 infected 3226 dead 1,437,735,419 population .005%
Iran 16,169 infected 988 dead 83,682,585 population .019%
S.Korea 8,320 infected 81 dead 51,256,619 population .016%
Spain 11,409 infected 510 dead 46,749,623 population .024%
US 5,261 infected 94 dead 330,446,714 population .002%
So no country has experienced 1% of it's population to be infected. In fact, it's not even 1/2% or half a half. The way it's described has everyone freaked out, but even in worst cases it's not really much at all.

Just the dull amongst us. They may seem more prevalent, but I think it’s just that they typically screech the loudest.

So the most reasonable explanation is one that defies everything we know about Biology and Virology? Does that sound like a good starting point to you?
The virus jumped to one single human and then lay in wait reproducing for decades in this one human until it finally mutated and jumped to another human? Is that your theory because that is what you are implying.
I don't know I'm arguing with someone who thinks it's ridiculous that there is an incredibly high bar of evidence to surmount before a drug is proven to be effective.

First of all, do you think those numbers accurately depict how many have this virus? The supply of testing here is way behind the demand.
Second of all, if an sick person infects an average of 2.5 people, it grows exponentially. 1 person infects 2 who then infect 4 who infect 8 and so on and so on. That sort of growth is what the fear is.

I’m not arguing this you fricking dullard. I’m saying you’re a bitch for poopooing positive information, simply because it’s speculative, while simultaneously circulating negative info even though it’s also speculative.
News that medicines are showing positive results in fighting the virus is a positive, no matter how much that bothers you.

China’s numbers were still minuscule. How do you explain that?

The virus has to reproduce to survive and, and the immune system will eventually suppress it. So it had to have mutated to be able to infect human to human quickly after jumping to the first patient.
I suppose other scenarios are theoretically possible, but virologists have evidence to not believe they are the case.
I'll double-down on incoming criticism. Here's a vid that does a good job of explaining to the average person like me how the virus reproduces to survive....

Right...so they locked down the area in which the virus was spreading so that it didn't spread further?
