Geez can’t even keep football players healthy

This dude hit Jaylen Hurts with a lot more violence to his body than anything baseball can inflict

I tend to believe this messaging is more of a “hey, baseball isn’t going to see him any time soon” combined with a “I don’t know crap about football” with the absence of anyone clarifying what a “stress reaction” vs. a “stress fracture” is. The latter would be awful depending on what he fractured. But otherwise, sweating is a “stress reaction”

I had a stress reaction/fracture in a lower vertebrae that manifested itself during American Legion baseball after my sophomore year. I think the traumatic injury occurred during a collision my freshman year in football, but was just made worse with the thousands of swings and pitches I threw in the next year and a half. I would take a couple weeks off, feel better and come back, then re-injure it. It took taking several months off and wearing a gay-arse back brace for a while (imagine a fricking corset with metal rods inserted from my waist to mid-back), but it finally went away.

I’m 42 and have never had any problems since, and I finished playing 2 more years of high school ball and Legion, a year of college, and a couple years of adult baseball (thanks, Zealot). My point there is that I was able to put my back through tens of thousands of more reps with no reoccurrence and I was nowhere near the athlete Maurice is. I’m sure Hampton’s body is capable of healing infinitely better than mine, but if he has something like I did, the key is going to be giving it plenty of rest and not pushing it to come back too soon, even if he thinks he feels good enough to try. This sucks, but good luck to him.
